Our Story

Our vision is for people with Asperger’s Syndrome to live with confidence and self-belief.

Our mission is to empower people with Asperger’s Syndrome to reach their potential through programs and services based on inclusiveness, self-development and self-advocacy.

Our Story

In 1994, there was little information available about Asperger’s Syndrome. So, Asperger Services Australia was born. At the time, we started as a small support group of parents with children diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. As our work grew in 1995, we incorporated and gained charity status and set up a resource library. Within a few years, we expanded to hold 11 support groups around Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Ipswich.

In 2012, we opened The Asperger Centre in Virginia (Queensland) with the aim to provide clinical and non-clinical services for our members and the wider public. At present, we offer four main services:

Providing Support

Over the years, we’ve helped many families in South East Queensland through our research, training courses and support groups. We’ve also been involved with constructing university courses, creating awareness campaigns and forming alliances with many helpful service providers. But our work is far from over.

While it’s a lot easier to find information on Asperger’s online today, there’s still a great need to help and support families and individuals diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. We are committed to continuing our work supporting families and individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome to reach their potential to benefit society by full participation and inclusion in the community.

Please note Asperger Services Australia acknowledges there are numerous ways to describe one’s neurology and believes that this is an individual preference. We have chosen to use the term Asperger’s because of our history, however we respect the preference of individuals to determine the language used.
