Expression of Interest for ASA’s Program Reference GroupShare your experience and assist ASA implement some exciting new programs – Expressions of Interest invited for our Program Reference Group
ASA is developing new services to provide support to people with ASD 1 and 2, their families and carers.
The key initiatives are:
- Life Skills Programs – We ran a pilot Life Skills program earlier this year which was well received. With the learnings from the pilot, we will be running this program on a regular basis as well as developing some more advanced programs targeting specific needs, such as employment readiness. These programs will be designed to assist young people with ASD 1 or 2 develop the skills and strategies they need to live an independent life and integrate into the community.
- Peer Support Group expansion – We have been facilitating support groups for many years as we believe peer support and social interaction are extremely beneficial. Over the past 12 months we have sought input from our support group participants into how these groups can be improved and how we can involve more participants. Following this feedback, we have recently commenced a second Youth Support Group in Capalaba. Through necessity, we have also trialled these meetings over an internet-based forum (Zoom). We will continue to look at new locations, different formats and other initiatives for these groups.
- Information, Support and Referral Service – ASA has always been a trusted source of information for people facing the challenges of ASD 1 and 2. This service will be improved and expanded over the coming months.
- Peer Mentoring Program – this is a new initiative designed to bring together older or more experienced people with ASD to share their lived experience and knowledge with younger or less experienced people with ASD.
This is an exciting time for the Board, management, staff and volunteers of ASA and we are looking forward to implementing the above initiatives, with your assistance. We realise that to successfully implement programs that will be truly beneficial, and hopefully life changing, for people with ASD and their families we need the input, advice, guidance and feedback from people with lived experience throughout the process.
